The backup floor is a site-defined minimum state-of-charge (SoC) that the battery must always retain, so it can serve its primary backup role during a grid outage.
Amplicity's control layer treats the backup floor as an inviolable constraint. Optimisation and market participation only draw on the spare capacity above the floor. A typical industrial site sets the floor at 60-80 percent of nameplate capacity, depending on the specific outage risk and load profile.
The backup floor is what distinguishes safe behind-the-meter optimisation from reckless behind-the-meter optimisation. Any vendor that will not commit to a site-defined floor in writing is not serving the backup use case correctly.
